Coach Sattler is currently in his 12th season at the helm of Valparaiso Swimming. He is a 1993 graduate of VHS where as a swimmer he broke 5 school records, was a seven time individual event state finalist (100 breaststroke, 100 Fly, and 50 Free), and All-American in the 100 Breaststroke. Following graduation he continued his swimming career at Miami University where he was named all Mid-American conference in three of his four seasons and was awarded the prestigious mental attitude award at Miami. He was also the Mid-American conference champion in the 100 Breaststroke and set a school record in the 200 medley relay.
Coach Sattler Graduated from Miami in May of 1997 with a B.S. in Zoology and a minor in Chemistry. Following graduation he decided to attend Valparaiso University to obtain a teaching licensure in Biology and Chemistry. He recently graduated with a M.S. in Kinesiology from the University of Texas Pan American. His concentration was in exercise physiology with his research interest in recovery based training in swimming. He currently teaches Anatomy and Physiology as well as Advanced Biology at Valparaiso High School.
In the years that Coach Sattler has been the head coach of the Valparaiso Women's team they have never had a losing season. The team has finished in the top two of the conference meet 6 times and top two in the sectional meet 10 times. His swimmers have broken 5 school records under his tenure and 36 swims are currently ranked in the all-time top ten at VHS. Most importantly his swimmers have averaged over 97% of the swims at championship meets as lifetime best times during his tenure.
Coach Sattler has been married to Elizabeth Sattler for six years. Mrs. Sattler teaches seventh grade science at Ben Franklin Middle school in Valparaiso.
Coach Siminski is now in her third year coaching the Lady Vikings. She comes to us with a long and illustrious career in the sport of swimming. She was a 2002 graduate of Portage High School where as a swimmer she set numerous school, pool and meet records on her way to two individual state titles and the Indiana Mental Attitude award. She also was awarded multiple high school All-American honors and was an Olympic trials qualifier during her tenure at Portage.
Following graduation coach Siminski attended the University of Texas where she continued to enjoy copious success in swimming. While at Texas she was a ten time NCAA All-American and helped Texas to a top ten national ranking in each of her four years. She was also named All Big 12 conference each of her four years and was a conference champion in the 200 freestyle. Coach Siminski graduated from Texas magna cum laude with a degree in elementary education in 2006. She is currently a third grade teacher at Paul Saylor Elementary School in Portage.
Coach Chappo has been instructing diving for 36 years. His current and former divers have set numerous records including Conference, Section, and Regional records. During the 96-97 season, Mr. Chappo became the first person in Indiana High School Diving to coach the men's and women's state champion in the same year. He has been named the state diving coach of the year on four different occasions. He is a member of the All American Selection Committee, a 1974 graduate of Ball State University, and is an elementary school teacher in Portage.
Scott has been coaching High School diving since 1988 with a short break from 1999-2003. He started coaching Portage High School's boys and girls diving teams his first year after graduating from Valparaiso High School. He coached for 9 successful seasons at Portage producing IHSAA state medalists, Duneland Athletic Conference champions and IHSAA sectional champions. Scott took some time off coaching while living in Indianapolis to concentrate on career skill development in Geographic Information Systems and database design. Upon returning to Northwest Indiana he took a position at Valparaiso High School as Assistant Diving Coach under his former mentor Bill Chappo and continues in that capacity today. Scott was a DAC champion and state qualifier while diving at Valparaiso High School.
